An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Advanced Practitioner post for the inpatient Pain Service. The post will provide a seamless transition to support successor training

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative registered nurse. The candidate should have varied clinical experience in general surgery, critical care and theatres and a proven record of providing training and education to multi-professional colleagues. Experience in paediatrics would be an advantage.  The successful candidate will have advanced pain management skills and experience in managing  patients with acute, chronic and complex pain 

Management and leadership qualities are key elements of the role and the ability to work autonomously and under pressure is essential.  Contributions to regional and national pain management initiatives and involvement in research and audit are considered key factors to service development and improvement 

Full Driving Licence is essential

The successful  candidate will attend the Advanced Nurse Practitioner course at University of Central Lancashire commencing January 2022. On qualification the successful candidate will acquire Trust wide responsibility for inpatient pain management in respect of advanced practice, clinical leadership, staff management, service development and ensuring robust governance frameworks are  in place to support and enhance practice. 

The successful candidate will be supported with clinical and managerial supervision.  Opportunities to expand and acquire a wide range of enhanced skills. The post holder will lead and support the pain service across all 3 hospital sites providing cross cover for sickness and annual leave as required. 

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level registered nurse
  • Studied at Advanced or Masters level
  • Certificate in teaching or equivalent
  • Advanced communication skills course
Desirable criteria
  • Independent non medical prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Varied clinical experience caring for surgical and medical patients
  • Evidence of management and leadership experience
  • Evidence of delivering multiprofessional education
  • Experience of conducting audit / research
  • Experience of introducing a change in practice
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of supervising doctors
  • Experience of working with senior management and clinical staff
  • Written for publication and/or presented at conferences
