Working in the award winning Innovation, Informatics and Information (I3) service; you will be part of an innovative organisation, constantly striving to push the boundaries of how information and technology can support better healthcare. You will work with raw data from hospital systems to build analytics quantifying the issues the NHS faces, identifying problems we aren’t aware of yet and coming up with pragmatic solutions. 

You will be part of of a small team of analysts in the Corporate Information Team, supporting staff from front-line department/ward staff up-to the senior management team. You will act as a translator, gathering requirements from report consumers or National policy changes and developing these into technical solutions that support the mandatory reporting requirements of an acute healthcare provider and provide assurance to the Senior Management Team.

Main duties of the job

Routinely analyse and interpret complex information on a daily basis.

Required to liaise with multiple parties to gather and communicate management information.

Routine requirement to manipulate complex data in an intuitive manner whilst resolving user queries.

Maintain a highly developed knowledge and extensive understanding of NHS data definitions/standards.

Responsibility for the production and submission of daily, weekly and national returns and datasets.

Support the ad-hoc information request service provided by the Information Management Department.

Required to maintain knowledge across a wide range of information standards/technologies and skills and utilise that knowledge to advise on data collection/reporting processes within own area of expertise.

Interprets technical / professional / administrative IM&T policies around data definitions and advises upon how these should be interpreted and acted upon.

 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level standard or demonstrable equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to Master Degree level
  • Statistical and/or computing qualification/certification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a management Information environment analysing complex data using a variety of sources/information systems.
  • Experience of analysing large datasets
  • Experience of presenting complex information to a variety of audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge
  • Experience of working with Business Intelligence reporting toolsets (for example QlikView, SQL Server Reporting Services)
  • Experienced in the use of SQL and its application for extraction and manipulation of large datasets
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist knowledge and experience of NHS data definitions, data standards and patient flows
  • Experience of extracting data from Hospital information systems
  • Experience of utilising capacity and demand models
  • Experience in the development of forecasting models
  • Experience of undertaking data analysis within a clinical environment.
