Applications are invited for this post, based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), a University Teaching & General Hospital situated on the fringe of the Lake District National Park. This replacement post is for a Locum Appointment for Service ST3 + Doctor in General/Breast Surgery working at ST3 + grade, until August 2019, though there may be potential to extend.

You should be fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.

The Department of General Surgery presently comprises 10 Consultant Surgeons (5 Colorectal, 3 Breast, 2 Endocrine, 2 General / Laparoscopic, 1 Paediatric Surgery).

In addition the unit staffing has 4 Specialty Doctor posts (this being one), 4 Specialty & 1 Core Trainee (North West Deanery), 1 Trust CT grade post, 2 FY2s, 7 FY1 trainees, 2SCPs and 2ANPs.

You will participate in a 1:8 on-call rota for Emergency General Surgery at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, working under the supervision of a Consultant Surgeon, and join a team providing comprehensive inpatient, outpatient & day case General surgical services. Your elective commitments will be in Breast surgery with some general surgery components too.

The trust provides clinical teaching to Undergraduate Medical Students based at the University of Lancaster and who have clinical attachments on the RLI site. It is expected that the appointee will contribute to undergraduate as well as postgraduate supervision and training /education in addition to service commitments. Lancaster is a historic yet expanding city, with an established and growing Medical School, and two campus universities; The University of Lancaster and a University of Cumbria campus. The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust are situated in beautiful countryside around Morecambe Bay in North West England bordering both the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

Train and motorway connections from Lancaster are excellent with the M6 motorway and West Coast mainline rail network providing easy and fast links to Manchester (1hour), Midlands & London (2 1/2 hours) to the south, and Carlisle, Glasgow & Edinburgh (2hrs) to the North, whilst Lake Windermere, Kendal, Ambleside, Grasmere & Ulverston are within 30-60minutes drive. There is ample residential rental accommodation in the City and adjacent to the hospital.
