Job overview

As part of the surgical divisions commitment in developing its services we also have an Emergency Surgery Ambulatory Care service on the ward.

We are looking for a Staff Nurse that is keen to take change initiatives forward and support the further development of this service.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated nurses to work on the Acute Surgical Unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The ASU provides care for all types of surgical patients including general, urology, ENT, Max Fac, orthopaedics and colorectal specialties.

You will work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure safe service delivery for patients and staff; participating in all aspects of wards duties.

Full support will be given for you to achieve your developmental needs. We expect staff to work together as a team to achieve the best outcomes; you will be encouraged to work with your manager to identify any individual learning needs relevant to the area.
You will be required to participate in providing 24 hour cover.

Newly qualified Band 5 nurses are welcomed to apply; you can work towards Band 5 competencies & develop extended roles. Full support for Preceptorship given.

 




Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level Registered Nurse
  • Willingness to undertake Teaching Qualification, Mentoring / assessing qualification, NVQ Assessors Award
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration clinical course appropriate to area
  • ECDL or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Evidence of recent professional development.(2)
  • Experience of establishing effective communication.(2)
  • Experience of implementing change.(2)
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience within designated area.(2)
  • Experience of mentoring and assessing junior staff.(2)
