Job overview

We are looking to recruit a consultant who can help us deliver Non Site Specific Service (NSS)

The NSS pathway is  for patients who have ‘vague’ symptoms that could indicate an underlying cancer, but who do not fit the 2 WW criteria.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team (Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Pathway Navigator) to support  the delivery of a Non Site Specific pathway (NSS).

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in improving Cancer outcomes and Early Diagnosis.

The post holder will work virtually from and there will be a need for travel for face to face clinics to meet the needs of the service.

This is a Fixed Term post of 2 sessions per week.

Main duties of the job

To support the continued development and provision of the ongoing clinical service provided by the  Non-Site-Specific Rapid Service.

Attend twice weekly virtual NSS MDT.

To provide faster diagnosis for patients with vague symptoms and a suspicion of cancer who are referred to  the NSS. This will be achieved by timely and effective triage and diagnostic investigations appropriate
for the patients’ clinical presentation.

As part of an NSS multidisciplinary team, to be responsible for the integrated co-ordination, triage and onward referral of patients with non-specific symptoms who will be able to access local diagnostics and
continued care, as appropriate.

Be responsible for ensuring onward referral either to an appropriate 2 WW clinic, tumour-specific MDT after further investigation or back to the patient’s GP if no pathology was found. Also to provide a report for the
GP re the findings which will also include advice and guidance provided by the clinical team

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
