''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

Consultant Physician in Ortho-Geriatrics

This innovative post is supported with a job plan consisting of 10 Programmed Activities and no associated on call activity. The post is based at Royal Lancaster Infirmary and is a substantive appointment.

This is a superb opportunity for a geriatrician who has recently gained CCT or for a more experienced candidate to join a supportive, forward thinking team. This post is proposed as an additional Geriatrician with a special interest in Orthopaedics to enhance specialist assessment and support reductions in length of stay and unnecessary admissions.

Orthopaedic liaison services at Lancaster have been developed over the last few years. This is an exciting opportunity for a physician to join the team providing services to adult patients admitted under trauma and orthopaedics thus enhancing the services of the orthopaedic department. This allows the prospective candidate to focus on the delivery of the hip fracture pathway to ensure high quality care for our older fracture patients through well-co-ordinated multidisciplinary team work, pre-operative optimisation of care, prompt surgery and postoperative care.

You are required to have appropriate experience and interest in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. There is currently one full time Consultant with an interest in Orthopaedic liaison.  You would be expected to contribute to daily weekday Consultant rounds on the Orthopaedic wards.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has a keen interest and extensive involvement in Medical and Dental Education at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. We work in partnership with Lancaster Medical School, North Western Deanery and Health Education North West to provide quality education and training which meets the requirements of these regulatory bodies as well as the Trust’s high standards of patient care. UHMBFT provides one of the main NHS settings for students from Lancaster Medical School as we co-ordinate, deliver and quality assure the clinical component of Lancaster Medical Schools MBChB degree programme.

In working with us, you will be rewarded with an interesting and stimulating job, and have the opportunity to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

You must hold full GMC with a licence to practice and be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register or be within 6 months of obtaining your CCT at the time of interview

The Trust is keen to attract enthusiastic and committed individuals and in return will offer an attractive relocation package for the right candidate.

Interview expenses will be paid from point of entry to the UK.
