1 x part time 25 hours per week

the Catering department at Westmorland General Hospital is looking into recruiting a catering assistant for duties within their busy department

Main duties will include working within various production areas, Pan Wash, Pot wash dining and service areas, serving patient meals on ward level, maintaining their workplace in a clean and hygienic manner  

Have  working knowledge of a busy food environment and ideally hold your food foundation certificate , full training will be support will be given on induction 

You will be working for a department that is committed to the ongoing development of their staff 

Main duties of the job

Provide a counter service to staff, patients and visitors that is customer focused in Trust 
restaurants and cafes with responsibility for Cash handling and Card payments at authorised 
pay points.
 Follow food safety legislation and complete all relevant Hazard Analysis of Critical Control 
Points documentation.
 Be responsible for replenishing counter and food service areas, rotating in accordance with 
Use by and Best before dates ensuring stock is fresh and appetising.
 To be responsible for stock control and replenishing items for vending machines across the 
site ensuring all vending machines clean and in good order, reporting any faults immediately to 
line manager.
 Use electronic tablets in the catering department to view patient menus to ensure the trolleys 
are loaded with the correct cold food for each patient’s dietary requirements. 

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Education /Experience

Essential criteria
  • Education and qualifications
  • Good general education.
  • Good literacy and numerical skills for the ordering of meals, cash handling and ordering of stock items.
  • Possess or willing to complete Foundation Food Hygiene Qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience
  • Previous experience of working in a hospital environment.
  • Experience of using industrial catering equipment
  • Previous experience of working in a hospitality environment
