Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Executive Chief Nurse, the Director of Governance will be a trusted and specialist adviser to the Trust Board on all aspects of governance as well as being a member of the Executive Team.  The post-holder will ensure robust governance structures within the Trust and where needed partners too.  As an active member of our ICS and partnership working you will also have the opportunity to operate at both Place level and across the wider system, embedding new governance arrangements in what is a period of significant but exciting transformation.  A real opportunity for you to showcase your talent!

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent postgraduate level ability and experience)
  • Appropriate professional and leadership qualification
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development, including leadership development
  • Project management qualification or relevant experience
  • Professional Procurement qualification or relevant experience
  • Proven experience exposure of working and contributing at Management Boards, Boards of Directors (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrable experience of senior Leadership management within the NHS or equivalent
  • Experience of leading and evidencing delivery of statutory and regulatory standards in healthcare
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering Clinical Quality Strategy
  • Evidence of adopting coproduction problem-solving approaches to complex issues and situations
  • Demonstrate service development experience
  • Evidence of teaching, coaching and developing staff
  • Evidence of involvement with clinical and non-clinical benchmarking standards
