University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust covers a large geographic area which encompasses the Furness peninsula, the city of Lancaster and the Lake District. We provide a comprehensive range of acute and support hospital services to a population of 350,000 based around Morecambe Bay. One of the largest employers in the area, we have approximately 6,000 staff working across five sites; Furness General Hospital (Barrow in Furness), Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital (Kendal), Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Centre (Morecambe). By joining us you will be part of a progressive team committed to diversity, excellence and achievement.

The Ophthalmology department cares for patients of all ages attending a wide range of ophthalmic clinics. We have Doctor / Nurse led clinics on all sites. Within this post you will work in general Ophthalmology clinics and more specialised ophthalmic clinics, preoperative assessment and organise and run theatre lists on a day to day basis, this provides the opportunity to cover all different aspects of Ophthalmic Care.

You will undergo in house training specialising in Ophthalmic Nursing care and development, with the opportunity to undertake the Ophthalmic nursing course.

You will be expected to complete the ophthalmic competencies that are required to work in the department.

The department is committed to appraisal, and supports continuous education and professional development.
