''A great place to be cared for; a great place to work''

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay has been nationally recognised as the UK’s most inclusive NHS organisation. As such we have a firm commitment to strengthening the diversity of our workforce, and therefore welcome and encourage applications from likeminded people who can support our ambition to become effortlessly inclusive. We are particularly keen to hear from protected groups – including BAME, LGBT+ and people with a disability.

Job overview

As a combined Acute and Community Trust, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) is enjoying greater integration working with colleagues across different sectors within the footprint of Morecambe Bay. Not only does this provide improved ways of working within the multi-disciplinary context, it enables you to be involved in the exciting journey ahead for providing transformational care within Morecambe Bay.

We are a multi-disciplinary team who would welcome you to join us. As well as being the country’s 10th most inclusive employer, work-life balance is made easier with our location; right next door to the beautiful Lake District, where you can enjoy outdoor recreational activities, as well as being close to the bustling city of Manchester.

Main duties of the job

Our Furness ICST is currently providing a rotation between acute inpatient Stroke and community Stroke rehabilitation – allowing staff to be a part of the whole process from admission to discharge and ongoing rehabilitation in the community. The Furness ICST covers an extensive area – including Furness, Millom and South Lakes. We would consider applications from those requiring part time hours or flexible working patterns. The service is currently under development and will eventually include Saturday and Sunday working.

The stroke team are supportive and committed to provide a friendly and flexible attitude which is patient focused and dedicated to quality care.

Our aim is to ensure all our patients have access to appropriate treatment in the right location. Our approach to stroke services will require a degree of flexibility as well as creative thinking to establish and form new pathways of care. You will be providing care across the pathway within the acute and community settings.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
