A position has arisen in the Blood Sciences Department at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust for a State Registered, Specialist Biomedical Scientist based in the Biochemistry laboratory on our Furness General Hospital site in the South Lakes region of Cumbria.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is composed of three main hospital sites; Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital and Westmorland General Hospital covering a wide geographical area encompassing North Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Barrow-in -Furness and the surrounding area of South Cumbria is a beautiful place in which to live and work. The area has a strong local economy offering diverse opportunities, especially in specialist technological fields. A variety of accommodation is available, from secluded village and coastal properties to modern town centre properties. The location allows easy access to the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales and Morecambe Bay each offering extensive recreational opportunities. Access to the M6 motorway is only 30 minutes away and rail links with Manchester and Liverpool mean large cities are within easy reach. The area also benefits from some excellent schools and colleges with numerous apprenticeships available in the area.

This is an interesting and challenging position within an accredited Blood Science laboratory. The Blood Science laboratories across the Trust work closely together to provide an efficient, high quality service utilising common analytical platforms and IT systems provided through a managed service contract with Beckman Coulter UK.

You will be working as part of a dedicated team providing a round the clock clinical service to the local population. You will be required to take part in a ten person shift rota providing the out of hours acute Biochemistry service.

This post currently attracts a long term recruitment and retention premium of £5892 p.a. which is reviewed annually.

Anyone newly appointed to the trust will be subject to the completion of a satisfactory 6 month probationary period (this includes bank staff). This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the role and working environment.
