Job overview

Working autonomously, you will have responsibility to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence-based nursing care under guidance from the B7 CNS teams and Consultants.

Integral to the post is the ability to demonstrate leadership skills, advanced interpersonal and communication skills alongside highly specialised clinical skills.

To assist the teams in the planning and delivery of education across a varied range of settings and to a wide range of health and social care professionals.

The teams are supported by medical staff and work closely with a comprehensive and well established Hospice at Home service and specialist hospice inpatient unit.

This is a 22.5 hour post working initially with the Furness community team  however will be flexible across UHMB. This is a permanent contract from September within the integrated community care group.

 

 

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Band 6  Palliative Care Nurse. The post holder will work alongside an experienced team which covers a large geographical area. This post is across both community and acute teams.

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals-Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. 

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services. 

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses. 

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

• Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered Nurse Level 1
  • Communication skills training
  • Post registration specialist education
  • Holds a degree in related subject
  • Teaching or mentorship qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Masters degree
  • Non medical prescribing
  • Oncology/palliative care qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post registration experience at band 6 or above
  • Experience of caring for patients with palliative care needs
  • Experience of and ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Experience of supporting junior staff to develop
  • Knowledge and understanding of symptom management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of audit and research
  • Experience of clinical trials
