Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department – Furness General Hospital, Barrow-In-Furness

SPECIALTY DOCTOR - required for a Fixed Term period of 6 months to provide general Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services .

The posts are based at Furness General Hospital which is one of the sites within University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust (UHMB) which was established in April 1998 following the merger of three Trusts in the area. The Trust provides an extensive range of acute, emergency and continuing care to a population of 350,000 in South Cumbria and    North Lancashire.

Furness General Hospital is a modern District General Hospital located on the edge of Barrow-in-Furness. A new maternity unit is due to be opened in February 2018 providing state of the art accommodation (admission to discharge family rooms with on suite accommodation) for women and their babies. It serves the population of the Furness peninsula and the surrounding part of South Cumbria.

The Women’s Unit at the Furness General Hospital undertakes approximately 1,000 deliveries per annum and provides a Maternity Unit with the Special Care Baby Unit, Antenatal, Gynaecology, Colposcopy & Outpatient Hysteroscopy Clinics and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit . There is also a weekly unplanned pregnancy clinic.
