Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated person to join the team for 12 months, covering Maternity Leave.  The post can either be full or part time with a working pattern of Weekends, Nights and Bank Holidays.  Under the direction of a registered midwife, the job role entails providing nursing care and assistance to mothers and babies within defined parameters specified by the registered midwife.

Main duties of the job

* Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team in order to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well being of mothers and babies. 
* Carry out and record basic observation/test results as instructed and report changes to a Registered Midwife (RM).
*Recognise changes in either mother or baby’s condition and report to a Midwife 
*Observe the standards of cleanliness within the ward area and report deficits to the Ward/Dept Manager 
* Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care

*Support RM’s in providing information and advice on health promotion * Teaching – Assisting with baby hygiene, infant feeding and parenting skills 
*Undertakes simple dressings/procedures using aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT) 
*Perform a range of relevant clinical skills, eg phlebotomy/Newborn Screening Tests

Working for our organisation

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
